The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld #7)

Published: March 29th 2011

Publisher: HQN Books

Length: 410 pages

My Rating: 4 stars

Blurb:

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty.

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun’s kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul … and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her

My Review:

Initially, I wasn’t too big a fan of Haidee, she was the reason the group split after Baden’s death. However, she grew on me, and as I learned her backstory and how each reincarnation only keeps the worst of her memories, I began to understand her motivation. Amun has been in the background for much of the series, and I wasn’t too concerned about his story, but as we get to know him, I grew to love him. He is compassionate, caring and endures greatly for the sake of his friends. Being a secret keeper is a heavy burden.

I love hell realms they are so intriguing, and authors have so many possibilities. This book involves our main characters navigating hell, and I adored the setting. There are some moments of absolute hilarity in the background scenes and the setup for Strider and Kaia had me salivating to get my hands on their book.

The series has started to lag somewhat and while still, excellent there is something missing. I don’t have the same wow feeling I had after reading other instalments.
