This is the story of a love that should never have happened. It features two siblings who fall in love with each other, their relationship is consensual, but they are young teenagers and the subject matter is controversial. Don’t avoid this book because of its subject matter. It is so much more. This is a book that will challenge your belief system and will remain with you long after you have finished.
This book was definitely not what I was expecting. I read it expecting it to be similar to other taboo reads, but it proved to be thought provoking, tragic and unforgettable. I found myself accepting and understanding how a relationship could develop from the situation Lachan and Maya found themselves in. They were forced to become parents to their younger siblings. their childhood was taken away by the neglectful adults in their lives.
The author did an amazing job in creating a story from such a taboo subject as incest and made me see it in a different light. She showed how they struggled to resist their feelings and also their understanding the consequences of being together. We see the inner struggles and thoughts of both main characters, we can’t help but be drawn into their poignant journey.
The ending was truly moving. I found myself in tears, which very rarely happens to me. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.
