This is the first instalment in Jennifer Ashley’s Mackenzies & McBrides series. The Mackenzie’s are a wild Scottish family surrounded by scandal and rumours. The only reason they have not been cut from the ton is their extreme wealth and of course, the oldest brother is a Duke.
This book follows the story of the youngest brother, Ian. He is known as the Mad Mackenzie, and he spent most of his young life in an asylum before being rescued by his brother.
Beth is a widower, who inherited a small fortune after being a companion to a wealthy elderly woman. She finds herself drawn into the complicated life of the Mackenzies and to a man who defies all normal behaviours.
This has got to be my favourite historical romance. I cannot recommend it enough. If I could give a higher rating I would. I applaud Jennifer Ashley for creating a hero with Asperger’s syndrome. It was completely refreshing and unconventional. For those of you who love historical romance with a flawed hero this is a must read. Wildly passionate and heart wrenching, this book will leave a lasting impression.
